Extract from the 2 last letters received from Mr.Humphrey

Cheetham, dated Hongkong the 6th and 8th May, 1915.

"This (my arrival here) was on the 3rd instant. On the same

day I called upon Shewan Tomes & Co., but am sorry to say I there

experienced far more difficulties than expected. In the firet

place I was informed that Mr.Schluter was in Canton and would not

be allowed to return, this as you will understand is a very serious

matter to me as I am now entirely dependent upon S.T. Co. for all ·

information and preliminary methods of running the business.

I am sure they intend to place every obstacle they possibly can in

my way to make matters difficult in hopes that the coming con-

signment will be left in their hands, which would mean a commission

to them of 2% as liquidators!

The liquidation of R.B.& Co. appears to me to be entirely in

the hands of Er.Young (of S.T.& Co.) and from what I can gather

from The Attorney General and Mr. Shewan they leave him to

adjudicate and settle all points of the old Texas Agreement.

result is that he makes claim to the new consignment in the

interests of R.B.& Co. and their (British etc.) creditore.

maintains that the existing agreement between the Texas Co. and

R.B.& Co. and Sanders Rehders & Co. still holds good, as the

six monthe notice between the parties has not been tendered.

Therefore whatever the Texas Co. consign to this part of China or 5.R.& Co.Ltd. is also to be shared by (the liquidators) R.B. Co.
